Day of the Dead Treats!

Day of the Dead decor is a very popular Halloween theme!  This centuries old celebration is observed on November 1st & 2nd and is how Mexican and Mexican-Americans celebrate and honor the lives of those who have passed.  This holiday occurs near Halloween but is a colorful and much lighter celebration using symbols such as decorated skulls, butterflies and flowers!  Because of it’s beautiful, whimsical colors and decor it’s a really fun theme for all those who want something not so scary to celebrate the season!  I love it because it’s reminiscent of a fiesta…which is a fun twist on the traditional Halloween party!  And in my family, Halloween celebrations often include movies…which requires some treats and munchies!  Today I’d like to share easy ways to whip up a treat table perfect for scary OR not-so-scary movie viewing…with all the fun and flair of a holiday fiesta!

Simple Hot Cocoa Setup!

Hot cocoa is a favorite drink at my house…and when the first cool breezes blow I break out the fixin’s for a do-it-yourself cocoa station to take the chill off and satisfy tummies!  Whether you’re hosting an autumn party or just want to create a sweet surprise for your family, a hot cocoa buffet can be really easy to set up in a pinch!  I often keep the basic cocoa supplies in my kitchen all year long…it’s a chocolaty sip that’s even a favored drink on a cool summer evening!  But now that the unofficial end to summer has come and gone, it’s almost that time for sipping on warm drinks and snuggling around a fire!  I hope you can find some inspiration for your hot cocoa stations…no matter where you put them!

We just returned from a trip to visit my oldest at college during Family Weekend…and what a wonderful time we had!  It seemed a bit soon to have a scheduled parent-weekend but the wonderful thing about going in early September was the beautiful weather!  With just a slight crispness in the air, it really felt like the beginnings of fall but was warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities with just a sweater…which in my opinion is just heavenly!  But I’m not really blogging today to describe how awesome it was to see my kiddo again (even if he has only been gone a couple weeks!) but to share a fabulous little place that we stumbled upon while exploring his second home.  If you need a magical sugar fix, Peace Love & Little Donuts is a place worth seeking!  Let me share with you why I love it so much…

Teacher Appreciation Inspiration

August 23

Teacher appreciation gifts are such a wonderful way to show our hard working instructors how much we admire them for all they do for our children!  With most schools in full swing now it’s time to be thinking of those little things we can give or do for all the wonderful men and women who teach and inspire our kids to dream big!  Volunteering in the classroom would possibly be one of the best and most helpful ways to show some appreciation..but many times work schedules or little ones at home make it impossible to donate time.  The great news is that you can still come up with simple tokens to remind our teachers how much we care…and I’d like to share a sweet little idea with you today!  A gift never needs to be over the top to make the recipient feel appreciated.  Sometimes the smallest things, when put together with care, can really show someone how grateful we are to have them in our lives!  Have a peek at this simple gift that will have your teachers smiling!
