A recent visit to a friend’s home was filled with inspiration for me! I could share so many things about her beautiful house…and I will definitely be posting some of her breath-taking and positively inspirational spaces in the future!  But today I want to share an idea from her home that isn’t so much what she did…but how she did it!  She turned a simple and utilitarian process into a lovely creation…combining purpose with beauty!

Sunday Yard Work

We’ve had a couple of warm days sprinkled in this April but generally speaking…it’s been cold!  Wanting to wait no longer, I decided it was time to get some planting started and fortunately for me, my husband actually enjoys doing yard work! (which is more than I can say for myself!)  But I really love the end result of gardening so I pulled on the gloves and boots for a day of getting dirty!  Sunday started out a bit crisp but with the sun’s help the afternoon managed to be perfect yard-working weather!  Cool enough to be comfortable working up a sweat but mild enough that fingers and toes weren’t numb!  We hauled out the shovels, rakes and everything it takes to give the yard a nudge toward looking like it’s actually going to be May soon!  Today I’d like to share the hints of spring that are fashionably late this year…but better late than never!  The much anticipated arrival of blooms & blossoms got me motivated to spend…

Sunday afternoon in the gardens!

Bloom!

Winter certainly seems to be hanging on with both hands!  As much as I love all the seasons, winter has definitely over-extended its welcome around here…and for two years in a row!  In my opinion, the best way to remedy the winter blahs is with flowers!  So easy to grab a bunch and not so expensive anymore since great blooms are offered in almost all grocery stores as well as flower markets and green houses!  This time of year I love to pick a pot of bulbs to brighten my surroundings (and mood!) and also fill the house with the scent of spring!  If you’re suffering from the winter blues…a bloom or two might just be the remedy!

The weather has finally decided to cooperate around here giving us two weekends in a row that felt like summer!  I don’t know about you, but when the warmth sets in I’m ready for summer flowers–and there’s nothing quiet like colorful blooms to lift your spirits!  After the spring blossoms fade add a dash of happiness with some pretty pots of posies wherever you need a splash of color!

Lilac Love

The lilacs are blooming!  A much anticipated flower that makes its brief appearance each spring is a favorite amongst many of us!  The colors–soft and subtle shades of purple, white, pink and lavender are paired with an equally lovely aroma…the only thing that could make the lilac experience better is if the cut blooms would last a bit longer!  Nevertheless, its worth the long winter wait for these beauties to bloom and to bring them into your home no matter how short their stay may be!  If you get a chance to cut or purchase lilacs…don’t hesitate…its a flower that’s sure to bring a smile to your face and spring freshness to your rooms!  Enjoy them while they last!

Tiny Pots & Planters

Spring blooms are finally beginning to show their cheerful faces…and we’ve been waiting long enough this year!  It’s so refreshing to see life peeking through the dead of winter reminding us that warmer weather really will be on its way…and sticking around for a while!  Why not bring these tiny blooms inside to lift our spirits while we wait for the lazy days of outdoor living?  Even though the first blossoms are on the smaller side, they pack a big punch of happiness!  You can use anything to hold them…they are beautiful all on their own…but for a touch of whimsy try something new-or old, in this case!  Tiny planters, vases, pitchers & pots make lovely vessels for flowers and can be picked up for a dime at garage sales and thrift stores!  No need for perfection either…if they can hold water they pass!  See how much fun these tiny containers can be!

Sometimes the most simple of things can be so lovely!  With summer winding down, we need to enjoy the beauty of the last remaining blooms in any way we can!  A simple mason jar or any other glass container can make a lovely vessel for a suspended arrangement!  Garden twine or wire will do to hang these small bouquets from just about anywhere…a tree, a trellis…anywhere your heart desires!  No need to be fancy, they do the job all by themselves…

couldn’t be easier to create a lovely mood…

Sometimes the most common, utilitarian items can turn out to be simply beautiful!  Today we wanted to share the simple tool box.  These old boxes, replaced by the tool belt, are still wonderful to hold tools, gardening items and even household cleaners in charming style…in this instance, this rustic beauty is outstanding filled with blooms from the garden!

Today I had to share these wonderful blooms that I am so fortunate to have in my yard!  By chance (& good fortune) these flowering azaleas were already here when we bought our house…and past blooming, I might add, so we had no idea what was in store for us the following spring!  Wow! is all I can say about the surprise we got when those bushes were in full bloom that season!  I now wait all year for these pretty petals to grace us once again with their presence!  The color is so inspiring…this soft, yet brilliant shade of pink mixed with coral is breathtaking!
