Fun at the Endless Yard Sale!

I am happy to report that the Endless Yard Sale was certainly a success!  My mom and I headed out bright and early for a fun-filled day of treasure hunting on what couldn’t have been a more perfect weather forecast!  Last year it was so hot you’d practically melt in the sun…but I guess that doesn’t really matter much–unless it was a total wash-out a little rain, heat, or freezing temps wouldn’t stop me from going!  But this year we got lucky!  Cool enough for a sweater at daybreak is just about as good as a summer morning gets for me!  And it was breezy enough to keep it comfortable even in the heat of the afternoon…which was welcomed since climbing in and out of the truck all day was giving us an excellent lower body workout!  I swear it felt like we got in and out 100 times!  But a well spent day…shopping, eating, and chatting with new and familiar faces on our journey south on Highway 127!  As I mentioned last week, this was a particularly busy weekend for me…the sale, several commitments for the kids, and my younger son’s birthday–all falling within two days time!  Funny how that always seems to happen!  So my mom and I had to keep our yard sale adventure down to one full–and I mean FULL–day of fun!  Next year I hope to head to Tennessee and work my way back home!  But for now, I want to share a peek at our day…

following the road of endless sales…

if you’re someone who brakes at garages sales…this stretch is definitely for you!  a mix of antiques, household gadgets, and even some junk–but there’s something out there for everyone!  this was my third trip, each only one day long, and i’m not kidding when i say we’ve never gone farther than about 40-50 miles south on the highway because there’s so many places to stop along the way!  and i hear from some shoppers (who’ve tackled the entire distance) that the state of Tennessee is possibly the most packed with vendors along it’s stretch of road!  but we were content to stay within Ohio…and since the morning was cool, we started off with a quick trip to Starbucks for a toasty cup of joe…and we were off!

the day began peacefully–sipping coffee while driving through the long stretches of blacktop cutting through fields…

and then you see it–cars lined up on the roadside!  i always have to fight the urge to run…especially at the first one!

sometimes you go a few miles between them–and others are only blocks apart!

lots of inspiration along the way…what a great color combo against the barn’s red, chippy paint!

ready, set, start searching!

this Chinese checkers game might make colorful wall art in a playroom…

and i’m always hunting for a vintage Faygo bottle for my husband…sadly, no luck this trip.  but the upside is that i still have future excuses for looking!

old bottles

couldn’t pass up a look at these metal letters!  no place to put the large, rusty H…but i certainly gave it some serious thought!

gates, crates, and cans…oh my!

seriously, there’s always some surprises…

this ribbon backdrop hanging at an adorable antique booth got me inspired to put creating one for myself on my “to-do” list!  you see lots on Pinterest…but i love this one made with a vintage tablecloth and some patriotic accompaniments!  (maybe next year’s 4th of July party?)

and i have to mention the food…even though we brought snacks, you must always leave some room for what might be waiting in the food wagons!  as we made a pit stop at a convenience store, i noticed some men eating a large slab of meat on a stick.  what we were about to discover was something on the verge of being miraculously ingenious (especially if your family consists of boys)…smoked pork loins on a skewer!  what a fun idea for a party!  so if you hit the garage sales next year and go through Ohio…don’t miss MoJo’s Grab N Go for this mouth-watering treat!  they were so sweet to let us buy some and leave them there until we were on our way home…an unexpected surprise for my family!

yum!

pork loin

if you’re a garage sale or antique market fanatic, this trip will definitely be worth making–no matter how long or short the distance you travel!  whatever you’re looking for…vintage or new–toys, furniture, books, bikes…

bike

and everything in-between–you’ll likely find it there!  i hope you put the endless garage sale on your calendar for next year!  in the meantime, there’s plenty of antique markets and sales going on now through fall…check out your area to see where you can go hunting!

and remember to brake for garage sales!

if you want to know where you can get the delicious pork (since MoJo’s only sells them the weekend of the Highway 127 sale)  check out Pettisville Meat Inc!  i’m telling you, this little market is going to be the first stop on my next road trip!  and for all us northwest Ohio & northeast Indiana folk…it’s in our neck of the woods with two locations…yay!  (locations in Pettisville, OH and Butler, IN…check the link for more info!)
