A breakfast buffet is a wonderful way to start the day…especially on the first day back to school!  If you’ve got kiddos headed to the classroom it can be an exciting and also nerve-wracking time!  A really fun way to calm those nerves OR add to the thrill is to serve up something out of the ordinary for breakfast!  Check out this first-day-back setup that’s filled with really easy goodies you can grab at the grocer…you may already have what you need right in your own pantry or in your child’s school supply bag!  By adding some decorations inspired by the classroom an ordinary breakfast can be a welcome treat to celebrate the new school year!  Let’s get some back to school inspiration…

Eat Cake for Breakfast!

Yesterday I co-hosted the final Breakfast Club gathering for the school year.  My sweet friend helped me to dish up some morning goodies to some of the ladies who make up this really fun and wonderful group!  I have to sing praises for this group which began several years ago when many of our littlest kiddos went to school full time.  It was such a wonderful way to stay connected to moms who no longer had little ones to take to playgroups anymore.  The only new “rule”…all grownup time!  I miss those playgroup days but I do have to admit that it’s so wonderful to have uninterrupted conversations with old and new friends…the group is open to all newcomers as long as they don’t have kids in tow!  And once in a while, a new mom with kids at home might actually have a second without her littles and pop in for a cup of joe and a “mommies only” moment!  I just love the way this group offers the opportunity to meet women we might not cross paths with due to the different stages of our kids or working schedules!  So since this is one of my favorite things and being the last gathering until fall comes around, I wanted to do something a little special on my buffet…without going crazy–this is supposed to be easy fun after all!  But with a little recycling, I could make a pretty food station with simple treats to celebrate friendships!

Breakfast “Thank You”

Saturday turned out to be a wonderful morning for a breakfast on the patio with the girls who volunteered to be on my decorating committee for After Prom.  We’ve been working hard to come up with all the decorations for this school function happening next weekend!  The After Prom Party has been a tradition at our school for years and a wonderful way to keep our kids safe and entertained for the late-night hours following the Prom!  It has actually become quite an event which requires loads of work from all the committee members to create a memorable evening.  And like most school events, it also requires sticking within a budget.  This means lots of pounding the pavement for donations and in the case of our committee, also a TON of hands-on crafting and finagling of props to create the biggest bang for our buck!  We started brain-storming last fall and have been working toward this event ever since!  My committee has put in plenty of personal time…and we also have the biggest, single chunk of time approaching when we begin the process of setting up on Friday!  So to show my appreciation for all the assistance from my friends, I decided that a “thank you” breakfast might be a nice idea!  So Saturday it was, a morning of thankful fun!  The early hours of the day did require a sweater, but it turned to be a fabulous way to begin the weekend…sipping warm coffee, munching on breakfast goodies, and spending time catching up on things other than After Prom!  I’m so grateful for all their help…it really has been a collaboration!

a simple gesture of thanks…
