Simply Spring…

Now that St. Patrick’s Day festivities have come to an end, i can finally concentrate on spring and Easter decorations!  Not that I don’t LOVE our Irish traditions but it seemed a little strange to decorate for both at the same time…even though I did it anyway!  But now there’s only one holiday and new season to celebrate and I always look forward to the fresh change of color and natural elements that I add to my home!  And since Easter is only a little over a week away, some simple decorations are about all I can muster!  Fortunately, it can be really easy and inexpensive to decorate for spring!  Fresh flowers are abundant in every supermarket (and soon in the gardens!), buds are beginning to pop on the blooming bushes & trees, and of course, Easter eggs and candy are everywhere…all wonderful options for bringing springtime into my home!  Today I’d like to share some quick and simple ideas…

to celebrate a new season!

one of my favorite ways to add seasonal whimsy to my home is with candy!  i’ve collected several apothecary jars and use them all the time to fill with sugary treats!  the funny thing is that my family really doesn’t over indulge in candy…not that we never eat it, we all consume our fair share, but maybe because i’ve always kept a candy container in the house it isn’t over appealing to us.  so it may seem like a waste to buy it but many candies are very inexpensive and it’s always nice to have treats on hand when we have guests!  so a simple way to make my table look festive in between meals is with some sugar!

i laid a spring wreath on the table to frame my candy jar…making this chocolate bunny look extra special!  this is a great way to re-purpose a door decoration!

and in my kitchen i filled some bowls with paper grass and chocolate eggs to stack on the shelves along with holiday dishes, pretty napkins, and straws in spring color…so easy!

my next spring favorite would have to be flowers!  right after New Year’s i feel the need for freshness and nothing does that better than a bouquet of blooms!  now that the warmer months are almost upon us, it’s easier AND cheaper to find plenty of pretty petals!  even a small vase of tulips just makes me smile…

or a tiny potted plant is another great choice!  my shamrock was part of my St. Paddy’s Day decor but still looks like spring especially when paired with a tiny nest…

tiny nest

speaking of nests…i LOVE natural elements in a home!  here’s another backyard find that i placed in a glass footed dish with some more tiny craft eggs.  if you don’t have a real nest you can find all sorts of cute imitations in any craft store!

and if you want a little extra holiday fun, i would always recommend a garland!  they’re so festive, easy to find, and most are inexpensive…less than $10 for sure!  i had some fun with this felt garland from the Target dollar spot…it was $3!  i loved the tiny bunny tails–which was the inspiration for the pots…

bunny tails

after the boys smashed up the rainbow pinata that hung here for St. Patrick’s Day, i needed a quick and easy replacement!  i decided to make “bunny tail” pots to sit across the mantle above the sweet swag!  a simple pompom and bunny-ear headbands (turned backwards) from the dollar store make my mini topiary pots look like a bunny’s backside!

and this other adorable garland (also from Target) is a pretty addition to the mantle in my living room…

i love the color combo!

i tucked some pretty posies into these small bowls which are on clearance right now at Target.  (do you think i should get a job there?)  they come in several patterns and colors and i think they make adorable vessels for flowers!  and afterward, they can be used as they were intended…for nibbles and munchies! i didn’t have frogs to hold the short stems so i just put pebbles in the bottom of the bowls to keep the blooms in place!

so i hope you can find some inspiration from these holiday displays in my home home.  they’re some of my favorite and easy ways to…

enjoy a simple springtime!

These are fabulous ideas! You have the magic touch. The bunny topiaries are adorable, and I love the addition of natural elements with the bird’s nest and flowers. I think I’m also going to get some apothecary jars since all you have to do is change what’s inside them to fit the season. Thank you, Lori!

Thank you!! That’s so nice! I love apothecary jars for that very reason…you can pretty much put anything you want in them!! Watch for the 50% off sales at Hobby Lobby for some good deals…and Home Goods has a nice selection for reasonable prices! Happy Spring!
