Tin Can Vase

In May we featured a planter that Sarah had made out of an espresso coffee can…so adorable and resourceful!  It’s fun to be inspired by others…so on a shopping trip to Ikea (one of my favorite places!) a soda can became something more than tin for the recycling bin!  Ikea is famous for cute and simple labeling on their products, especially food items.  The minimalistic design is so great for just about any decor and particularly perfect for patios or summer entertaining!  There are limitless choices for containers…Sarah had the right idea!  Look at everything with an open mind and you will be amazed at what you will see…

Get Busy…

It is always fun to find an unused area and carve out a little space for yourself or your family!  My favorite thing about this awkward nook in my kitchen is the chalkboard wall!  This space has been a challenge for years…and while we have come up with ways to use it in the past, it now functions so much better as a message center and storage area for many of our Giggle Glitter products & supplies.  The chalkboard wall is ideal for me to jot reminders for my family as well as have fun with some stenciling…not to mention that it is irresistible to kid doodling!  This space is full of simple ideas that work in a big way!  Old tins, vases and mugs make for unique & attractive storage for items that need to be handy…and I believe the more mismatched these containers are, the more personalized & relaxed your space becomes!

It’s a Banner Day!

Not many things are as cheerful as a colorful banner!  They are common at celebrations and it is easy to see why…fun, whimsical and full of cheer these garlands of pennants just make us happy!  Why should we wait for a party to enjoy one?  How about making one to hang in your home?  If you aren’t sure you want one hanging in your formal living room that’s ok…try a child’s room, family room or a patio!  I really believe that if you choose the right material for your home you could probably find a spot in any room!  A super easy project to do, why not try this to celebrate the summer season!

Pretty Petals

Today I had to share these wonderful blooms that I am so fortunate to have in my yard!  By chance (& good fortune) these flowering azaleas were already here when we bought our house…and past blooming, I might add, so we had no idea what was in store for us the following spring!  Wow! is all I can say about the surprise we got when those bushes were in full bloom that season!  I now wait all year for these pretty petals to grace us once again with their presence!  The color is so inspiring…this soft, yet brilliant shade of pink mixed with coral is breathtaking!

A new favorite color inspiration…

It’s the first day of spring!!  However, it still feels like the dead of winter!  With over a 60 degree temperature difference on the same day last year, the official arrival of spring is a tad disappointing.  I thought sharing this sweet DIY project might help bring some springtime smiles to this chilly day!  Sarah and I love to find cute and simple ways to add charm to seasonal decorating…this adorable garland is not only super sweet but easy to create for some springtime cheer!

St. Paddy’s Day Play-Date

St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday for whimsy!  It is also a perfect excuse to have a party!  Whether is it a blowout bash for adults or a gathering for kids, you can never go wrong with touches of green to add the Luck ‘O the Irish to your event!  Though this “party” was really a simple play-date for kids, the ideas can be altered easily to incorporate a more adult nature.  (especially where beverages are concerned!)  Either way, a little green goes a long way in making even a simple gathering of little leprechauns seem extra special…

Since Valentine’s Day is really just around the corner I wanted to feature one of my Favorite Things today.  Our family actually received this goodie in the mail yesterday as a Valentine treat!  If you want chocolates that will look like a piece of art and taste just as decadent you need know about Norman Love Confections.  Though they are located in Florida it is fortunate that they have a website for us chocolate lovers who can’t stroll through their doors for a sweet indulgence!  Check out www.normanloveconfections.com for an amazing treat–even if you don’t get to sample–the chocolates on their site are truly something to behold!  I have been fortunate enough to delight in tasting these little gems…flavors such as Cinnamon Roll, Florida Orange, Vanilla Rum Truffle, Passion Panna-Cotta (my personal favorite) and Peanut Butter & Jelly…there is something for everyone!  So check them out and I am willing to bet that you will be wishing for that little green box to arrive at your home!

All Tied Up With Ribbons And Bows

A staple for holiday decorating–ribbon!  Affordable and practical, it never ceases to amaze me how a single strand of ribbon can transform the simplest thing into a delight!  Whether you are traditional, contemporary, romantic or something in between, there is a ribbon out there for you! Choose your favorites and have at it!  Once you get started I promise you it will be hard to quit!  My latest color infatuation in my home is green–ribbon allows me to transform my colors without blowing my budget on all new decorations.  So, I guess you could say that ribbon is a pretty remarkable item!  Here, green, grey and silver strands twisted from stocking to stocking add a striking punch of color to an otherwise serene mantelpiece.  Tiny trees standing tall on a dessert stand bring a touch of color to the top and silver initial tags add a glittery touch.  Such simplicity but such an impact!

The same green ribbon tied around a slipcovered chair successfully pulls the color in to an adjacent room and the bird ornament with a bountiful ribbon tail looks so festive perched upon an urn filled with vintage tinsel.  The simple bow attached to a lamp gives an ordinary item some holiday flare!  So what are you waiting for?  Go get some ribbon and let the festivities begin!
