First Day Back!

Yesterday was the first day of school…and WOW how the summer flew by!  I can’t really believe that the school year has begun and I’m not quite in the swing of all the activity that will come along with it!  Even though the lazy days of summer can get a bit monotonous by the end…I wish we could slowly wade into the hectic school schedule rather than diving right in–sometimes feeling the sting of a full on belly flop!  But regardless of how you feel about the first day of school–it can’t be avoided!  I decided to embrace it this year and send the boys off with a hearty and fun breakfast surprise for their first full day back!  Since breakfast isn’t usually elaborate in our home on school mornings, I knew it would be a treat to wake up to a build-your-own breakfast sandwich buffet…

simple “first day” celebration…

mixed emotions are always common on the first day back to class…excitement to see friends swirled with a touch of anxiety about homework and tests!  i figured that a simple breakfast surprise might help the day get off to a good start!  i have to admit that it was a bit shocking to wake up before the sun had brightened the sky…it kind of felt like the school year had never ended for a minute!  but an easy set-up of breakfast goodies was a welcome sight for the boys as they were up bright and early (which i’m pretty certain won’t last beyond the first week!)

back to school

a simple get-up of goodies to make hearty croissant sandwiches…really easy work since most of the items came right from Costco (including the precooked bacon) and all i had to do was heat ’em up & put ’em on platters!

a quick scramble of eggs…and the cinnamon streusel bread in the background (also from Costco) is amazing!

and cheese slices for the sandwiches…

made it easy for the boys to serve themselves on their own time!  and for a little fun…i couldn’t resist some kind of message!  my simple chalk board made the stove look festive…

the gold flags (which are really meant to thread onto a straw)…were so easy to string on a strand of ribbon making a shiny banner to perk up the sign!

and since the morning was a chilly one, i decided to add another favorite…hot cocoa!

can’t forget the mallows!

marshmallows

i think it was a success…the boys seemed happy and fully understand that all mornings aren’t quite like this one!  but a nice start to the first day of school or any other special morning!

an easy, serve-yourself breakfast…

then off to the first day!
