With two boys, I don’t often use pink when entertaining or decorating…so when I get the chance to host some girls for any occasion…I jump on it!  An opportunity to say “thanks” to some friends helping with a project came about–and a simple picnic lunch seemed fitting for the occasion and season!  Not an elaborate event, but fun nevertheless…and a chance to “girl” it up a bit!  Here’s an easy way to throw together a sweet picnic for any situation!

May Day is Coming…

When May marches in…it’s time to celebrate the season with May baskets!  The first of the month, otherwise known as “May Day”, is an opportunity to surprise a special friend, neighbor or anyone whose day you might want to brighten by leaving a sure sign of spring on their doorstep!  When I was growing up we would always make May baskets and leave them throughout the neighborhood…ringing the doorbell and running before the recipient could see who left the springtime surprise!  An endearing tradition that, unfortunately, lots of people are unaware of!  A sweet and simple May basket idea was prompted by tiny gifts we made for friends visiting over the Easter holiday…little baskets intended for miniature eggs inspired a wonderful and easy creation for a May celebration!  Check out this simple idea for this lovely way to bring springtime smiles…May is coming…

In February of 2013 I wrote about a wonderful chocolate shop that is certainly at the top of my favorites!  I had the luxury of visiting there recently and was not surprised that it was as much fun to go to Norman Love as it was to receive the little boxes filled with deliciousness on Valentine’s Day!  I’d like to share Norman Love Confections once again because they also sell the most adorable chocolate eggs…you still have time to let the Easter Bunny know to make a stop there before visiting your home!  So today I will share some Norman Love decadence and how you can get some for yourself…just in time for Easter!

Spring blooms are finally beginning to show their cheerful faces…and we’ve been waiting long enough this year!  It’s so refreshing to see life peeking through the dead of winter reminding us that warmer weather really will be on its way…and sticking around for a while!  Why not bring these tiny blooms inside to lift our spirits while we wait for the lazy days of outdoor living?  Even though the first blossoms are on the smaller side, they pack a big punch of happiness!  You can use anything to hold them…they are beautiful all on their own…but for a touch of whimsy try something new-or old, in this case!  Tiny planters, vases, pitchers & pots make lovely vessels for flowers and can be picked up for a dime at garage sales and thrift stores!  No need for perfection either…if they can hold water they pass!  See how much fun these tiny containers can be!

Those Pesky Leprechauns!

Each St. Patrick’s Day morning our family finds that prankster leprechauns paid us a visit–playing holiday tricks while we slept!  We’re greeted with open cupboard doors & drawers, chairs turned upside down or stacked on table tops, and a trail of glitter and confetti marking the path of those pesky visitors!  This tradition has been a favorite of my kids…even as they grow, they still love to see what those crazy charaters will do next!  An idea inspired by one of their teachers when she had the kids make leprechaun traps to catch those rascals when they came calling!  But, alas, they stayed one step ahead turning the classroom upside down and not a single leprechaun getting captured!  We kept this tradition at home and it’s really fun…with the exception of cleaning the confetti, but that’s what vacuums are for!  The prize for enduring this pesky visit?  Tiny gifts and trinkets left behind amongst the chaos–and the best consolation…gold coins hidden in the shoes of the children!

will the leprechauns pay you a visit?

It’s always fun to have holiday traditions…one that we love is making Irish soda bread for a toasty warm breakfast on what is usually a cool St. Patrick’s Day morning!  However, sometimes life can get in the way of traditions…I’m sure we can all agree that sometimes there just aren’t enough hours to do those extra things we love!  So with that in mind, we came up with a fun holiday morning celebration that can be just as tasty as tradition and look equally special with a few easy touches!  Who doesn’t love those twisty bread sticks that pop out of a can?  Take a peek at a breakfast treat you can whip up in no time for a whimsical St. Paddy’s Day morning!

serve up some twisty fun!
