Cinco De Mayo Holiday Table

The Cinco De Mayo holiday is coming up soon!  I happen to love this festive day, and while I’ve yet to host a huge fiesta, I still enjoy creating something colorful and fun for my family!  One of the many wonderful things about this holiday is the food…wouldn’t you agree?  Mexican favorites are so delicious and are usually very easy to prepare!  We happen to love tacos…so that’s the meal of choice for our simple Cinco De Mayo celebration!  Not only are tacos yummy and fun to make but you don’t need any utensils to eat them…which makes setting a table even easier!  With that in mind, I was playing around with some tabletop ideas for our upcoming family celebration…so when May 5th rolls around, I’ll be ready to set the table in fiesta style!  I’d love to share with you a preview of what our table will be like this year, including some DIY inspiration to get you thinking about Cinco De Mayo fun…big or small!

set the table…

for Cinco De Mayo holiday festivities!

one thing i love to do when i’m entertaining, is pre-set a table!  it might seem like a lot of extra work, but i find it fun and so helpful for effortless set-up on the day i’m entertaining.  this “trial-run” of our Cinco De Mayo table was inspired by the vintage, Mexican serape that will take the place of a traditional tablecloth!

and since my menu items require only hands to eat them…i will forgo the utensils!  a plate and napkin for wiping messy fingers is all that’s needed!

try using colorful bandanas for napkins…they’re inexpensive and come in so many styles and patterns!

i topped them off with a single flower popped right off the stem!  an easy way to add some extra color!

and speaking of flowers…i used the same stems to perk up a simple pot for a centerpiece…

you can easily create this Cinco De Mayo sweet treat by simply topping a tiny pot with a snack cake embellished with a cake decoration!

you can use a tiny dollop of icing in a tube to attach it…the easiest ever!

…and did you notice the sprinkles on the rim of the disposable margarita glasses?  a darling idea inspired by my talented friend @tulsadetails!

Cinco De Mayo holiday sprinkle glass rim

since i’ll be serving smoothie “mocktails” i thought the colorful sprinkles would be a whimsical & sweet substitute for the “salt” on a traditional margarita!  here’s how i did it:

sprinkle rims…

what you need:

margarita glasses (glass or plastic)

icing

sprinkles

i used leftover orange icing to match my sunset inspired sprinkles.  melt about 2-3 spoonfuls in a microwave save bowl and then pour onto a plate.  dip your glass into the melted icing covering the entire rim…

then immediately dunk the coated rim into the sprinkles, tipping the glass to completely coat the icing.  you will need to work quickly as the icing will begin to set up…and if you’re covering a larger number of glasses, you may need to re-heat it to keep it pliable!

then just let your icing harden…and you’ve got a fun, tasty, and colorful glass for your Cinco De Mayo sip!
