Smile-Maker!

What’s better to brighten a dreary day than a yummy treat that reminds us that summer is REALLY coming…it is coming, right?  Since spring and summer temperatures are taking their sweet time getting here, I decided to pretend a bit!  Yesterday was rainy and cold, but a fun find at the store was just perfect to be served as an after school snack to remedy the weather!  My boys really enjoy ice cream on a hot, summer day…but they still won’t turn it down even if it’s chilly!  I found some cute waffle cone bowls while shopping at the grocery store…and a couple days later I found more in a miniature version!  Knowing they’d go over well in my house, I bought them both!  So yesterday might have been rainy and cold…but it felt like summertime in our kitchen!  We had some fun experimenting with some traditional ice cream toppings to embellish the edible bowls…not only did they look cute & were easy to make, but they tasted good too!  Check out the simple snack-time project that had us dreaming of summer!

ice cream toppings aren’t just for cream!

when i found these cute waffle cone bowls i knew exactly what we could do with them…and an updated classic topping might make a happy addition to embellish our afternoon treat…

ice cream fun

i love these mini waffle bowls that i found at Meijer stores!  most grocers carry the larger version but this tinier size is just right for a single scoop!  i thought it would be fun to top of the rims of each bowl before filling it with ice cream!  and since it’s on the smaller size, it seems okay to add some extra sugar!

they’d be fun to fill with pudding or fruit too…anything goes!

since we wanted to decorate the rim, some milk chocolate chips seemed to be a good start…

and it’s ready for dunking…

then topped off with a quick dip into some colorful sprinkles!  i’m loving these festive minis for any celebration…you could make them ahead for a birthday party or sundae bar!

we also decided to leave a couple without the rainbow rim and just a ribbon of chocolate!

and then we decided to try something new…a little magic shell!  i love to try new things in the kitchen…if it doesn’t work out you can just eat it!  even though it was runny and looked a bit like a melted crayon, the vanilla cake magic shell was really tasty!  it set up once we stuck them in the fridge…and the color is so fun!

we just piled them on a platter with some cute dessert spoons…

and dropped in a scoop of frozen cream crowned with favorite toppings…more magic shell and mini oreos!
