Spring in Neutral

Anyone who knows me well knows that I can’t resist color!  I’m drawn to it…and with each season comes a new color love!  The only problem is that I can’t seem commit to certain hues or patterns and be satisfied with them forever!  I do enjoy change…but I also have to buy groceries so I can’t be redecorating my home every time the mood strikes me!  I’ve learned over the years to keep the major pieces in my home neutral allowing me to change it up with simple and inexpensive accessories to suit my seasonal mood!  This year seems to be extraordinarily hectic for my family…so my need for a sense of calm overrides the color whim this time!  I decided to go black & white…not a common color combo often associated with spring but honestly, I think it’s perfect for any time of year!  Still allowing for a few touches of springtime color, my living room looks fresh for the season in simple neutrals and is a welcoming room for me to relax…even if it is for just a moment!

black & white…a lovely backdrop for spring!

different shades of white, creams, greys, and black are anything but drab in my book!  i love mixing multiple soft colors with pops of contrast…it’s just soothing to me!  it also allows me to change those contrasting hues in a snap and for very little expense!

a monogram and a giggle canvas pillow offer a hint of black…and when i’m ready for summer stripes–it’s a quick & easy makeover!

i do love the way the sunlight plays with the paint color on the walls…going from soft grey to almost a pale yellow just by the amount of light coming through the windows!

little poufs tucked under the table are perfect for casual floor seating!  my family loves to be on the floor…snuggled by the fire or perched around the coffee table having a snack!  and though i adore hardwood floors, because we spend so much time on the ground it’s very comfy to have layers of carpet and rugs beneath us!  we intended to change that after the boys weren’t crawling around…but here we are still not ready to part with the fuzzy floor!

the acrylic chair (which is super comfortable!) is a great way to have extra seating and give the room an airy feel…and also a bit of a contemporary edge

the table is a wonderful place for homework, game playing, and eating…sometimes we eat dinners in here more often than the dining room!  the sun shines in so brightly that it already feels like heart of summer with no effort on my behalf!

i also love to incorporate nature into my home as often as i can.  this birch branch finds itself moving from place to place but i love it simply hanging from the curtain rod–looking beautiful on it’s own and also adding more black & white…naturally!

adding some springtime is as easy as a few flowers from the yard and a fallen nest given a new home on a cupcake stand!

seasonal inspiration…

i rarely hide my paper media.  a footed tray on the floor is where i keep a stack of my current favorites–at the ready for those special moments when i have time to curl up in a chair & leaf through the colorful pages!  (plus i think they look pretty cute sitting out–displaying an indication of the present season!)

get your home ready for any season with a neutral canvas…and as easy as a brushstroke of paint…you can add whatever color of spring inspires you!
