So the long, holiday weekend has come to an end…but we were so lucky to have beautiful weather, time with family and friends, and great moments of festivity! It really feels like summer now that we’ve been able to enjoy an entire weekend of days that end relaxing around the fire pit…with a glass of wine in hand! Anticipating the arrival of family and long-distance friends made the preparation for our casual gathering so much fun…and because I recycled so many of my decorations, it was pretty easy to pull it off without a hitch! (or not much of one anyway!) So without much ado, I’ll share some summer fun with hopes of inspiring many lazy day gatherings for the months to come! I know I’m already looking forward to our next one!

As I mentioned earlier this week, we’re expecting several visitors over the holiday weekend…and I love having the opportunity to welcome guests with a few festive treats! Fun thing about the 4th of July, all those Memorial Day goodies get to have an encore…one or two fresh items added to the mix and I’ve got the makings for a brand new holiday display! And with multiple guests popping in, I can rearrange my holiday supplies to stretch over the weekend! A simple, patriotic snack buffet is a great way to let guests help themselves to some nibbles & sips at their leisure. For an easy snack table, take some colorful treats and gather them together…

I love that the 4th follows so closely to Memorial Day…it helps stretch out those patriotic displays and allows for some recycling of those decorations which saves time and money!! I love the Fourth of July holiday! It’s such a festive opportunity to gather with family and friends, celebrate independence, and of course, decorate! Red, white, and blue are such summery colors and this holiday, for many, nudges summer vacation into full glory–so it’s the perfect time to celebrate using this festive trio! I don’t know about you, but by the time the 4th of July comes around I’ve finally gotten into the swing of our new summer schedule…or lack there of…and I’m ready to embrace all the wonderful things about it! As the long holiday weekend approaches, my family is looking forward to relatives and long-distance friends paying us a call! And with so many opportunities to entertain, I welcome easy decorations that will help me pull off some holiday displays to greet guests as well as treat my family to some extra festivity! This effortless 4th inspired table decor is just right to leave out and enjoy for many meals preceding the actual holiday and still perfect to delight guests who will sit around the patriotic table!

My son recently graduated from the six grade! At our elementary school, the sixth graders leave with a graduation ceremony and party…to celebrate their achievements and the exciting new world that they will enter into…Junior High! The party has been a tradition for years…put on by many parent-run committees working hard to make this a festive evening for sure! Guess what? I happened to be on the decorating committee with a bunch of fun and creative girls! (and a couple guys!–we can’t forget the dads who helped too!) We started planning the festivities a couple of months ago after the classrooms voted on their theme and slogan…this year’s winner: Lights, Camera, Action–2021 is the Main Attraction! A fun theme to work around…so have a peek at this festive production!

One of the best things about early summer is the patriotic festivities that can stretch from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July!  If the first holiday sneaks by, you still have the opportunity to get you get your red, white, & blue on over the next several weeks!  I love the color combo for summer in general, so adding a few stars and stripes is an easy way to give your holiday gatherings an all-American look in a cinch!  This peek back at my Memorial Day celebration on the patio can still offer inspiration for July…and I intend on using some of the same supplies and recipes for a family gathering on the Fourth! (a great way to keep entertaining stress at a maximum low!)  I also want to share a favorite recipe that will be sure to please guests of all ages…so let’s have a little patriotic fun!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  It’s the official start to summer and all the fun that goes with it!  We begin the new season with a long weekend of parades, backyard barbeques, and gatherings of friends and families to celebrate each other and remember all those who’ve served, and those who currently protect our country!  Keeping it short and simple today, I just want to share some fun, patriotic supplies I intend on using now…and carry forward into July celebrations.  Take a peek at these red, white, & blue goodies that you can still get for last minute Memorial Day celebrations or tuck them away for the 4th of July!

Bloom!

On Monday we celebrated our teachers by hosting an annual Spring Luncheon as a “thank you” from all the parents!  A simple gesture, but much appreciated by the teachers and staff…and a fun excuse to come up with festive decorations to help make them feel special!  The theme was “bloom”…a vision of springtime but also a word representative of how our teachers help cultivate our students over the years–the end result being each child blooming to their full potential!  With very modest decorations it was easy to make the school library look fresh for spring and show our teachers just how much we appreciate all they do!

Last Minute Gathering

Yay! The weekend was filled with glimpses of summer!  Finally warm weather was here for more than a day…and over the weekend no less!  So this arrival of southern breezes got me scrambling to have a gathering around the fire pit…the first of many I hope!  Several school & neighborhood friends of my youngest made up a lively group for celebrating a warm spring evening!  When planning something at the last minute, I never worry too much about appearances…especially for gatherings of kids–they’re just happy to eat & play!  But it’s pretty simple to whip up some little details that can make just about anything look better than it really is!  And since the Giggle Spring Show was on Thursday, I had some dessert servers and food labels ready to be re-purposed for a group of S’mores lovers!
