Window Shopping

I can’t believe that summer vacation is over!  Most kids are back in school and leaves are ever-so-slightly turning…what the heck happened!?  I actually began working on this publication earlier this summer and it’s shocking to me that we’re now already approaching the end!  However, this lovely location is still worth sharing…and a road trip in the fall is equally as wonderful as summer!  Whenever I’m traveling about I can’t resist checking out new shops, eateries or whatever else catches my eye!  On a trip to Granville, OH to pick up my son from a camp at Denison University, I had just that chance to check out the adorable Main Street of that quaint little town!  And while the rest of my family was enjoying a frozen treat at the ice cream parlor–I  wandered next door to find this lovely shop…

Pass the Potatoes!

I’ve had several recipe requests for the garden potato salad from my holiday buffet posted on Monday… so I decided to offer it up today! I love this yummy and pretty-healthy version of the summertime staple and often make it for warm weather gatherings! I really should make it all the time ’cause it keeps well in the fridge for healthy snacking and you can fiddle with the recipe and make as much or as little as you want! Another bonus — most of the veggies are raw making this salad a cinch to whip up! So here it is…

Holiday Wrap Up

So the long, holiday weekend has come to an end…but we were so lucky to have beautiful weather, time with family and friends, and great moments of festivity! It really feels like summer now that we’ve been able to enjoy an entire weekend of days that end relaxing around the fire pit…with a glass of wine in hand! Anticipating the arrival of family and long-distance friends made the preparation for our casual gathering so much fun…and because I recycled so many of my decorations, it was pretty easy to pull it off without a hitch! (or not much of one anyway!) So without much ado, I’ll share some summer fun with hopes of inspiring many lazy day gatherings for the months to come! I know I’m already looking forward to our next one!

As I mentioned earlier this week, we’re expecting several visitors over the holiday weekend…and I love having the opportunity to welcome guests with a few festive treats! Fun thing about the 4th of July, all those Memorial Day goodies get to have an encore…one or two fresh items added to the mix and I’ve got the makings for a brand new holiday display! And with multiple guests popping in, I can rearrange my holiday supplies to stretch over the weekend! A simple, patriotic snack buffet is a great way to let guests help themselves to some nibbles & sips at their leisure. For an easy snack table, take some colorful treats and gather them together…

The Fourth of July is such a fun and festive holiday to show your red, white, & blue side! I love that the 4th follows so closely to Memorial Day…it helps stretch out those patriotic displays and allows for some recycling of those decorations which saves time and money!! I’m so excited to share with you one of my favorites–this festive banner kit to add to your Memorial Day left-overs! I love kits…they make it so easy to create spectacular displays quickly and pretty effortlessly! So have a peek at this fun garland to help you celebrate your holiday get-together…

I love the Fourth of July holiday! It’s such a festive opportunity to gather with family and friends, celebrate independence, and of course, decorate! Red, white, and blue are such summery colors and this holiday, for many, nudges summer vacation into full glory–so it’s the perfect time to celebrate using this festive trio! I don’t know about you, but by the time the 4th of July comes around I’ve finally gotten into the swing of our new summer schedule…or lack there of…and I’m ready to embrace all the wonderful things about it! As the long holiday weekend approaches, my family is looking forward to relatives and long-distance friends paying us a call! And with so many opportunities to entertain, I welcome easy decorations that will help me pull off some holiday displays to greet guests as well as treat my family to some extra festivity! This effortless 4th inspired table decor is just right to leave out and enjoy for many meals preceding the actual holiday and still perfect to delight guests who will sit around the patriotic table!

Picking Peanuts

Today’s post isn’t really about picking peanuts…but in fact, about a wonderful little shop I found in Ashburn, Georgia! Whenever I’m traveling it’s a requirement to pop into fascinating little establishments along the way! The bonus of this shop is that it’s in the same plaza as a huge sausage shop…so the boys all had something to do! While I was strolling around in this fabulous market, they were checking out deli counters and store shelves full of toppings and rubs for BBQs and all types of recipes calling for meat! Thankfully this gave me some extra time to nose around…wishing I had the room to bring home car-loads of treasures! Take a peek at this lovely shop…

i sure wish Pickin’ Peanuts was in

On our recent trip to Disney I had so much fun checking out all the wonderful gardens on the properties…talk about floral inspiration! But of all the gardens, one in particular caught my eye… such a fun and whimsical idea that you could even do at home with younger gardeners. With the new Disney-Pixar animated movie Inside Out in theaters today, I thought it fitting to share these adorable blooms planted just for the new flick! Take a peek at this garden that represents the emotions from Inside Out!

Summer Magic

So summer begins with a little magic for my family…kicking off our summer vacation in one of the happiest places on earth…Disney World! I know that Disney isn’t for everyone…but I have to admit that I’m a bit of a fanatic! Over the years, as the kids have grown, we’ve found that there truly is something for everyone, at every age…and any time of year! This is the first time that we’ve ever gone in the summer and though it was hot and we dodged a few rain showers…it didn’t dampen the magic of rolling a ton of summer fun into one week! Of course there’s always moments that are less-than-perfect…but I’m certain (in my house at least) that those moments are present throughout the year, vacation or not! The realities of family life! None the less, the magic of Disney was a wonderful way to begin summer vacation and soak in some seasonal inspiration along the way!

hello, summer!
