Easy DIY Advent Calendar

December is just around the corner and in my house that means time to begin one of my favorite traditions…the countdown to Christmas morning!  An advent calendar is such a wonderful way to countdown the days to the evening the big man pays a visit, building the anticipation as the cheerful tags disappear one by one!  When my boys were little we started this tradition by hanging little bags and boxes filled with tiny trinkets and candy…little tokens to open each morning leading up to Christmas Day!  Back then it was so easy to find inexpensive goodies that the kids were thrilled over…stickers, bouncy balls, a Hot Wheel car or a piece of candy!  The candy is still a hit but as the boys have grown it has been increasingly difficult to find small items that they would appreciate that won’t break the bank!  The days of giving stickers unfortunately are over for me, so the past few years I’ve really struggled to find useful or fun little items to fill up the 24 days in our advent!  This year I came up with a new twist that helps me save money AND time!  Let me share with you a new idea for our old tradition and a really easy way to create it!

A Pumpkin Decorating Party!

October 9

Pumpkin decorating is one of my favorite things to do in the fall!  Whether it’s carving out spooky grins or painting it up in whimsical color, decorating a pumpkin is such a fun tradition and a great way to get a little creative!  My family always carves a pumpkin a few days before All Hallows’ Eve…but once you slice into that roly poly guy, the days are limited for his survival!  If you’re like me and can’t wait to get decorating the minute the calendar flips to October…a no-carve option is perfect for lasting through the holiday!  And as much fun as it is for me to celebrate this tradition with my family, it can also be a wonderful project to share with friends!  A pumpkin decorating party can be so much fun…and for the grown-ups too! Today I’d like to share a twist on pumpkin decorating that can last through the month and even into November…it’s also the perfect excuse to have some gal-pals in for some seasonal festivity!  You don’t necessarily have to decorate your pumpkin to look spooky…some paper, twine, flowers and glue can turn a craft pumpkin into a fall beauty that could also grace your Thanksgiving table!  So just because October often makes us think of ghosts and ghouls…see how much fun a different take on a traditional party can be!  Boho themed celebrations are all the rage…especially for a ladies night!  So today I’m so thrilled to share with you a cocktail party that includes decorating a pretty pumpkin!  Get crafty and join in on…

Day of the Dead Treats!

Day of the Dead decor is a very popular Halloween theme!  This centuries old celebration is observed on November 1st & 2nd and is how Mexican and Mexican-Americans celebrate and honor the lives of those who have passed.  This holiday occurs near Halloween but is a colorful and much lighter celebration using symbols such as decorated skulls, butterflies and flowers!  Because of it’s beautiful, whimsical colors and decor it’s a really fun theme for all those who want something not so scary to celebrate the season!  I love it because it’s reminiscent of a fiesta…which is a fun twist on the traditional Halloween party!  And in my family, Halloween celebrations often include movies…which requires some treats and munchies!  Today I’d like to share easy ways to whip up a treat table perfect for scary OR not-so-scary movie viewing…with all the fun and flair of a holiday fiesta!
